Libraries & Frameworks

Here is a list of libraries and frameworks you can use to enhance your website. Most of these are simple to implement, but note that ‘simple’ is not a synonym for ‘easy.’ You should expect to spend some time experimenting and learning if you choose to implement one of these.

A little goes a long way in enhancing your site. There are many more options, libraries, and frameworks available besides those listed here:

  • Animate.CSS:  Just-add-water CSS animations. A cross-browser library of CSS animations. As easy to use as an easy thing.  Head to the Animate.CSS’ GitHub page and scroll down for instructions.
  • AniJS: A Library to Raise your Web Design without Coding
  • Bootstrap:  Bootstrap is the most popular HTML, CSS, and JS framework for developing responsive, mobile first projects on the web. Here is some info on Bootstrap’s Grid SystemNote: Using Bootstrap will override and affect all of your existing CSS and style, including the code I provided you during Week 8.
  • Bounce.js: Bounce.js is a tool and JS library that lets you create beautiful CSS3 powered animations.
  • Chart.js: Simple, clean and engaging charts for designers and developers. Check out SitePoint’s Fancy, Responsive Charts with Chart.js and Creating Beautiful Charts with Chart.js
  • CodePen: search the pens for features that you would like to incorporate into your website, like slideshows.
  • Dynamics.js: JavaScript library to create physics-based animations
  • Enquire.js: enquire.js is a lightweight, pure JavaScript library for responding to CSS media queries. Check out SitePoint’s Introduction to Enquire.js
  • FontAwesome: Font Awesome gives you scalable vector icons that can instantly be customized — size, color, drop shadow, and anything that can be done with the power of CSS.
  • jQuery Cards: A repository of over 1,000 quality jQuery plugins
  • jQuery UI: jQuery UI is a curated set of user interface interactions, effects, widgets, and themes built on top of the jQuery JavaScript Library. Whether you’re building highly interactive web applications or you just need to add a date picker to a form control, jQuery UI is the perfect choice.
  • Magic Layout: Magic layout is a JQuery plugin by which you can animate all the elements on the page.
  • Stage.js: Stage.js is a 2D HTML5 JavaScript library for cross-platform game development, it is lightweight, fast and open-source. Check out SitePoint’s Introduction to Stage.js
  • Timelined: A customizable CSS-only vertical timeline.
  • Vibrant.js: Extract prominent colors from an image.
