Week 7’s digital lecture will explore composition, which is how a shot is framed in a video. You don’t have big budgets or equipment (or time), so framing your shot is the most effective and powerful way you have with regards to recording when it comes to making a meaningful impact in your final PSA. With that in mind, please watch this 16 minutes video, Composition in Storytelling. The author uses popular films to demonstrate effective composition.
We will discuss composition when we review Footage Challenge 2, which is due on Monday of Week 7. We will also experiment with photo editing in Adobe Photoshop and Apple Preview on Monday of Week 7. We will explore how to alter a photograph’s composition with the these tools in an effort to apply the Rule of Thirds and Golden Ration during ‘post-production.’
